ATI NTC thermistors

For a temperature regulating system, NTC thermistor is very important as the temperature sensor. Glass encapsulated thermistor has better performance than epoxy coated thermistor, such as zero short and long term drift, which is an important factor in order to achieve high system performance. Low cost epoxy coated NTC thermistor have large short and long term resistance drift, so when sensing the same temperature, the resistance changes with time, it will lead to a wrong sensed temperature, resulting in a drifted target object temperature.
You can take some factors into consideration when choosing a proper NTC thermistor in temperature control system: operating temperature range, sensitivity, drift, size, mounting method, etc. Our NTC thermistors are all encapsulated with glass material, with compact size. Some thermistor come with bare leads, while some are lugged form. The former is used for point sensing in order to achieve high accuracy; the latter is for bulk temperature sensing, such as optical components, etc.

NTC thermistor characteristics

  Thermistor is a kind of sensitive elements. According to different temperature coefficients, thermistor can be divided into positive temperature coefficient thermistor (PTC thermistor) and negative temperature coefficient thermistor (NTC thermistor). The typical characteristic of thermistor is temperature sensitive. With temperature increasing, the PTC thermistor resistance will increase and the NTC thermistor resistance will decrease. PTC thermistor and NTC thermistor both belongs to semiconductor devices.

Peltier controller

Based on Peltier effect, thermoelectric cooler (TEC) is built, which can both heat and cool, depending on the direction of DC current. TEC is a heat transfer tool. It has many advantages such as no refrigerant, high precision temperature control, compact size and so on. TEC has been widely used for temperature control of laser system temperature, refrigeration, water heater, air conditioner and computer CPU, etc.
The working state of TEC is based on the current direction and size. In order to realize constant temperature control automatically, Peltier controller (TEC controller) is designed and produced. Our company (ATI) is very good at designing Peltier controller, as shown in Figure 1.

There are many kinds of Peltier controllers available in our company. For example, TECA1-XV-XV-D series Peltier controllers have high efficiency, high stability, high reliability and compact sizes and some other advantages. Digital Peltier/Fan Controller ATFC107D

ATFC107D is designed to drive a Peltier/Fan assembly in order to regulate an enclosed chamber temperature. The assembly shows the working parameters in real time. These parameters can also be sent to a PC though USB port. The output stage has a soft-start and soft-cut function for driving the TECs so that the TEC's life time will be longer.
This controller assembly is consisted of a Peltier controller, a digital display, a fan controller, and a relay output. The Peltier controller is used to control Peltier module. The fan controller can control the fan. These components are assembled together into a whole digital Peltier/fan controller ATFC107D.   As shown in the figure below, this device show some temperatures, such as safety high temperature, safety low temperature, cool on temperature, heat on temperature, satisfied, TEC outside temperature, TEC inside temperature and chamber temperature. There are several LEDs indicating which temperature the digital display is showing. There are also some buttons to select the temperature. Therefore, it is overall an easy-to-use device in monitoring and controlling the chamber temperature.

SMT Inductor Kits

SMT Inductor Kits are designed for electronic designers in collecting and organizing surface mount inductors. We have a few types of inductor kits, which contain different inductors of commonly used values, with different quantities. These inductor kits offer a simplest way for obtaining any value of inductors within the shortest time with the highest efficiency.
There are 128 individual compartments inside the inductor kits. Each compartment holds a certain amount of inductors of a certain value. According to inductor size, for 0402 size, we have 74 values and 43 values; for 0603 size, we have 88 values and 35 values; 0805 size comes with 85 values; and 1008 size is with 60 values. NTC thermistor temperature characteristics

Thermistor with negative temperature coefficient is called NTC thermistor. NTC thermistor is made of such metal oxide materials as manganese, cobalt, nickel and copper, etc., with semiconductor. NTC thermistor has compact size, resistance and temperature characteristics with small fluctuations, etc. As NTC thermistor has fast response to all kinds of temperature changes, it can be used to realize high sensitivity and high precision detection.
Some thermistor with positive temperature coefficient is not suitable for applications in practical situation because with the increase of temperature, its resistance will increase, which can lead to signal distortion. With temperature increasing, NTC thermistor resistance will decrease. So in order to make the element resistance remained in a wide temperature range, NTC can be used for temperature compensation.

Surface Mount Inductor Kits

We are introducing an easy and convenient way to organize and sort out SMT inductors. Tiny and precise SMT components like SMT inductors, resistors and capacitors, are very common in electronic designer's bench, but it's hard to organize them in a small place. In order to save time and space, ATI provides a smart way for this: Super Surface Mount Inductor Kits.
These inductor kits contain various values and quantities of inductors, which come from renowned inductor manufacturer, such as TDK, Viking, Taiyo, etc. Therefore, the quality of the inductor in the inductor kits is very reliable. Peltier Controller Evaluation board TECEV104 (II)

In order to better understand this Peltier controller evaluation board, let's get more information about the board.
A tuning circuit and an application circuit constitute this Peltier controller evaluation board. This evaluation board can set the output voltage limit, tune the compensation network, set internal operating temperature point, and has an LED for indicating the temperature status of the Peltier controller. This Peltier controller evaluation board comes with numerous connection pads in order to make connections with external components and instruments.
As shown in the figure below, the Peltier controller is located in the center frame of the evaluation board, thus, it is only applicable for DIP type Peltier controller. The voltages of all its pins can be measured directly by probing the vias on the left and right side of the module sockets which are connected directly with pins of the electronic module. Moreover, the figure below shows the top silkscreen layer. There is no bottom silkscreen layer on the board.

The features of NTC thermsitor

Thermistor is a kind of sensitive elements. According to different temperature coefficient, thermistor can be mainly divided into two types, positive temperature coefficient (PTC) thermistor and negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistor. With the increase of temperature, the resistance of PTC thermistor will increase, and the resistance of NTC thermistor will decrease. Peltier Controller Evaluation board TECEV104 (I)

Peltier controller is an electronic device that is used to driving Peltier module with high accuracy to control and regulate the object temperature. The Peltier controller features high energy efficiency, compact size, zero EMI, which has been widely applied in many industries. 
ATI provides some types of Peltier controllers, with different max. output currents and voltages. For certain type of Peltier controllers, we provide an evaluation board TECEV104. This Peltier controller evaluation board is designed for evaluating Peltier controller TECA1-5V-5V-D. This Peltier controller evaluation board has a complete tuning and application circuit for driving a Peltier module. This evaluation board is working to tune the compensation network on Peltier controller in order to match the characteristics of users' thermal load. This tuning can minimize the response time of thermal control loop and dynamic temperature tracking errors, while keeping the control loop stable.
The Peltier controller can be easily evaluated by using this evaluation board. It's recommended to read the datasheet of Peltier controller TECA1-XV-XV-D together with this board datasheet in order to better understand this board.

Peltier Controller ATEC24V10A-D (II)

Here is more about the Peltier controller ATEC24V10A-D. This Peltier controller provides a high stability low noise 2.5V reference voltage, which is used to set the output current limit and set-point temperature. In addition, it is also used as the voltage reference for external ADC and DAC.
High voltage Peltier controller ATEC24V10A-D offers a switch mode output stage. An external clock signal can synchronize the switching frequency of ATEC24V10A-D, which is aimed to eliminate any possible beating noise on the power supply rails. The switching signal of the switch mode output stage will trigger the synchronization port to output a clock signal, which can be used as the source clock signal for synchronizing other switch mode electronics module.
The six sided metal enclosure of this Peltier controller can prevent it from being interfered by other electronics. There are two mount types, through hole mount and surface mount. Through hole type has a "D" at the end of the part number, ATEC24V10A-D, while surface mount type has a "S" at the end of the part number, ATEC24V10A-S.

NTC thermistor ATH100KR25

NTC thermistor is a kind of thermistors with negative temperature coefficient. As NTC thermistor has a compact size, small fluctuations in resistance and temperature characteristics, fast response for various temperature changes and other advantages, it can be used to achieve a high reliability and high accuracy detection.

Peltier Controller ATEC24V10A-D (I)

ATI provides a series of Peltier controllers, among which most are low voltage peltier controllers. In order to meet the customers' requirements about high voltage, we have developed a high voltage Peltier controller, ATEC24V10A-D.
There is a high output voltage, 24V, and a high output current, 10A. Therefore, this peltier controller is able to drive high power Peltier module in order to get high temperature stability. This Peltier controller has high efficiency, more than 98%. It has high temperature stability, ±0.01°C. This high temperature stability can be achieved by using a compensation network in order to match the characteristics of the thermal load. This compensation network consists of external components, which can be set differently for different thermal load.
Programmable current limit is a feature of this controller, which allows setting the output current limit. In addition, there is another feature of this Peltier controller, temperature good indication. When the target temperature is equal to the set-point temperature, an indication voltage on the TMPG pin is set high. The set-point temperature range can be programmed externally by 3 resistors.

3. Kitchen equipment
With the popularization of fuzzy logic technology, a lot of kitchen equipment, such as microwave oven, electric cooker, disinfection cabinet and so on, have adopted NTC thermistor temperature sensor, which has high sensitivity, heat shock resistance, no pollution and some other advantages. The NTC thermistor temperature sensor can realize the set of program control, heating, heat preservation, cooling, power failure and other functions.

Peltier Controller ATFC105D

ATFC105D is a digital TEC/fan controller, which is designed to regulate the temperature of an enclosed chamber. 
This digital TEC/fan controller integrates a TEC array, peltier controller, a fan array, and heat sinks. This controller detects the temperature of the chamber, and when the temperature goes beyond the safety window, it cuts off the power supply. It regulates the temperature by driving TEC assemblies with fans. It can also monitor the working status of this controller. This controller assembly allows setting the parameters of the set-point temperature window, the safety temperature window, monitoring the heat sink hot side temperature, heat sink cold side temperature, and the chamber temperature. Two control loops are integrated in this assembly: one is TEC and the other is fan. TEC loop has a bi-directional output in order to achieve heating and cooling effects, and the fan loop switches the fan on and off.
Peltier controller in this controller assembly is used to control the TEC array so that the TECs know when to cool down and when to heat up.

Why Peltier Controller

When we mention peltier controller, we need to focus on peltier. Peltier comes from a Peltier effect, which was discovered by a French physicist, Jean Charles Athanase Peltier, in 19th century. Peltier is named after his surname. Peltier effect is also called thermoelectric effect, which converses temperature difference to voltage and vice versa. When there is a temperature difference on each side of a TE device, it creates voltage, and this TE device is called TEG. TEG can be used to generate electricity, but it has limited capacity due to low power. When there is a voltage difference on each side of a TE device, it creates a temperature difference, and this TE device is called TEC. TEC is now widely used in thermal system, such as solid state lasers, refrigerator, optical components, etc. 
For such a popular TEC device, it needs a peltier controller to control the direction of the current going through the TEC so that the thermal load temperature can be regulated accurately.
There are a series of peltier controllers in ATI. The max. output current can be 2.5A, 4A, or 6A, the power supply voltage can be 3.1V to 3.5V, 4.75V to 5.25V, and 4.75V to 6V.

Applications of NTC thermistor temperature measurement (Ⅰ)

1. Heater

Cooling and Heating with Peltier Controllers

Thermoelectric cooler becomes more prevalent in thermal system design. Thermoelectric cooler is the fastest and most compact method in temperature control. Heat transport will be produced when the current goes through the peltier elements in peltier cooler. One side of the peltier cooler is attached to a heat sink and the other side is attached to the object. Then the object will be cooled or heated, depending on the direction of the current. The peltier controller can generate currents when a target temperature is set. The peltier controller should have a sensor input.
The selection of peltier controller firstly lies in the output current and power supply voltage. Then more factors can be taken into consideration, such as accuracy, stability, efficiency, module size, safety factors, etc. 
ATI provides a series of peltier controllers, and these controllers provide interface ports to configure set-point temperature, the max. output voltage, and the compensation network. They come with a 3V reference voltage of high stability and low noise, which is used to set the desired object temperature. They also provide temperature measurement and monitoring, power up delay and quick shut down.

ATI Peltier Controller

Peltier controller is also called TEC controller, is an electronic device which is used to regulate the thermal load temperature. The temperature of the thermal load can be increased or decreased by using a TEC depending on the current direction going through the two terminals of the TEC. By controller the direction of the TEC current, peltier controller can regulate the temperature of the thermal load.
Peltier controller is widely using in laser systems for temperature controlling. Peltier controller is often used with TEC modules,thermistors, and thermally conductive epoxy in order to achieve a best controlling effect. Thermal system is based on Peltier cooler, which has many advantages in temperature regulation, high stability, high accuracy, no moving parts, and wide temperature range. Peltier controller becomes more popular because it can easily drive a TEC to stabilize the temperature of thermal load.
How to select a proper peltier controller for your thermal system? First, you need to check your maximum output current and power supply voltage. If the power supply volage is 3.3V or 5V, max. output current is 2.5A, you can choose TECA1-XV-XV-D. If the power supply voltage is 4.75V-6V, max. output current is 4A, TEC5V4A-D would be a best choice. Moreover, a higher output current like 6A with power supply voltage of 4.75V-6V, then peltier controller TEC5V6A-D is recommended.
These peltier controllers come with compact size and RoHS compliant and have a high efficiency of 90%.

NTC thermistors can be divided into many series, such as ATH100K1R25ATH100KL2AATH10K1R0, etc. These NTC thermistors can be used to build high stability low drift temperature control system in TEC controllers. Comparing with traditional NTC thermistor packaged with epoxy, our NTC thermistors are coated with glass material, so our thermistors can provide a wider temperature range and higher long-term stability. Because of having high quality and high precise, our NTC thermistors are more and more popular among designers.

Applications of NTC thermistor

Thermistor is a kind of thermal sensitive resistance and its resistance value will have a significant change with temperature variation. Thermistors are mostly made of metal oxide semiconductor materials. As thermistor has compact size, simple structure, high sensitivity and high stability, and it also makes it easy to realize remote measurement and control, thermistor has been widely used for measuring, controlling temperature, temperature compensation, alarming and so on.  
Thermistor can be divided into three types, negative temperature coefficient thermistor (NTC thermistor), positive temperature coefficient thermistor (PCT thermistor) and switch type thermistor. Resistivity of the former two thermistors will change exponentially with the change of temperature. 
Generally speaking, NTC thermistor can be utilized to detect temperature, compensate temperature, measure microwave power and control temperature in various electronic products. 
Our company (ATI) has many kinds of thermistors with high quality and high reliability, which can realize temperature control of TEC controller. Our NTC thermistors is packaged with glass, as shown in Figure 1, provides higher long-term stability and a wider range of temperatures.

Why Inductor Kits

For most of electronic designers, it's not easy to sort out the tiny parts like SMT resistors, capacitors and inductors. Usually people needs these parts of many different values, so it is a huge quantity and will occupy a large place. Now, there is a smart solution, inductor kits
Inductor kits, according to its name, a kit containing various types of inductors. The inductor kit is a snap-lock enclosure with a number of inductors with different values. The enclosure has 128 compartments with lids independently. Corresponding inductance is printed on each lid, in line with the content of each compartment of the inductor kits. The size of the inductor kits is 11"×8.5"×1.75". It's a paper of letter size. So it's so convenient and easy to place the inductor kits anywhere you like, such as bench top, or book shelf, just like a teaching book. You can carry or transport the inductor kits to another site by putting them in your bag. 
There are two grooves on the top of the inductor kits and two protruding strip sponges on the bottom of the inductor kits. When multiple inductor kits are put together, they are matching each other, so they can be piled up easily.
Moreover, the inductor kits can bear an adult's weight. Therefore, the quality is superior. The physical photo of the inductor kit is as below.

Development history of NTC thermistor

NTC(Negative Temperature Coefficient)is a kind of thermistors. With the increase of temperature, the resistance of NTC thermistor will decrease exponentially. The following photo is a kind of NTC thermistors.

The development of NTC thermistor has a long history. In 1834, the characteristic of negative temperature coefficient of silver sulfide was discovered for the first time. In 1930, scientists found that Cu2O-CuO also has a negative temperature coefficient of performance, and successfully applied it in temperature compensating circuits of aviation instruments. And then, with the development of transistor technology, significant progress in the study of thermistor has been obtained. In 1960, the NTC thermistor was developed. It has been widely used for measuring temperature, controlling temperature, temperature compensation and so on. 
There are many kinds of NTC thermistors with high quality, high stability and long service lifetime in our company (ATI). These thermistors can be used for temperature control of TEC controller

Super kitenclosure

Super SMT component enclosure is a US-patented product, which was designed and produced by Analog Technology in 1997. Although this enclosure was put into market in 1998, it is still very popular among electronic designers today. The physical photo of super kit enclosure is shown in Figure 1.

There are three series SMT component enclosures, namely, resistor kitsinductor kits and capacitor kits. There are 128 small compartments inside, and on the top surface of each box, there is a label, in which its internal value can be written. In order to make it easier to search, the labels are arranged from the left to right according to the order of small to large. The lid of each box is very tight, so it ensures that the small components will not leak or miss. SMT enclosures have beautiful extrinsic feature. Its overall size is only 279mm*216mm*56mm, so it is very convenient to carry and use. All in all, using this enclosure will make your lab bench top neat and your parts be well organized.

High stability miniature thermistors

Our company (ATI) has many kinds of high stability miniature thermistors, which can be used for temperature control of TEC controller, as shown in Figure 1. Thermistors produced by us have high reliability, high resistance accuracy, long service lifetime and some other advantages.

ATH10K1R25 series thermistor is a product of our company, which can be used to sense the temperatures for laser diodes, optical components and so on. When temperature is at 25°C, its resistance value is 10K. It uses glass encapsulation, and comparing with traditional epoxy packaged thermistors, it provides higher long-term stability and a wider range of temperature. What’s more, it has a more compact size and a shorter responding time. The outside glass coating makes it has a low drift. 
In addition, this series thermistor has two insulation versions available, leads covered by high temperature plastic tubing and sealing between the head and the tubing.

Noise Measurement Amplifier

An oscilloscope can measure noise, but for ultra low noise, such as nV and µV level noises, it's hard to measure. There is anoise measurement amplifier ATNMA1.0, which is used to test and measure ultra low noise that can't be measured by an oscilloscope. 
This noise measurement amplifier can detect and amplify the noise signals by touching the selected point. There are seven magnifications, 10,000×, 30,000×, 100,000×, 300,000×, 1,000,000×, 3,000,000×, 10,000,000×. There are also three filter bandwidths available: : 0.1Hz ~ 10Hz, 0.1Hz ~ 1kHz, 0.1Hz ~ 100kHz.
There are several parts in this amplifier, a rechargeable battery, a coaxial cable and probes. The rechargeable battery can be used for over 20 hours. The battery capacity is 500mAh. The charging voltage is 4.2V. There is a function to monitor the battery capacity. When battery indicator switch is pressed, it's easy to observe if the battery needs to be charged. There are several LEDs on the amplifier, which shows the capacity. Meanwhile, when the battery is being charged, there are two charging display LEDs.
