Advanced Peltier controller-TEC5V6A-D

The TEC5V6A-D is an advanced Peltier controller with the power supply voltage from 4.75V to 6V and the maximum output current 6A. It is used for drivingthermal electric coolers (TECs) to monitor and regulate the temperature. This Peltiercontroller provides DIP packaging. It is very easy to be soldered manually on the board by a solder iron of < 310 °C, but it cannot go through a reflow oven process.

About Peltier Controller of ATI

More Applications for NTC Thermistors

NTC thermistors can be used to measure and monitor temperature accurately. In addition, NTC thermistors have more applications, such as measuring liquid level and wind velocity, which can replace other measurement and control methods.
Some home appliances, such as hot pot, coffee kettle, humidifier, use NTC thermistor to alarm water shortage by measuring the liquid level.

The Digital Peltier Controller ATFC107D

The ATFC107D is a digital Peltier controller, which is utilized to control, monitor and regulate the temperature of TEC/Fan assemblies. The Peltier controller comes with a digital display, so users can set temperature parameters and regulate the parameters in real time. During operation, the ATFC107D has high precision, high reliability and high efficiency (more than 98%).

How Does a Peltier Controller Work?

Peltier controller is designed by Analog Technologies, Inc. (ATI). It is used to set, monitor and regulate the temperature ofthermal electric coolers (TECs). During operation, the Peltier controller has high efficiency, high reliability and high stability. It is made of Lead-free materials.And the controller has the anti-interference function,because it is packaged in a compact metal enclosure (see Figure 1).

The controller has two types: open loop and close loop. The closed loop controller is more complex than the open one. NTC Thermistor- Wind Velocity Measurement

NTC thermistors are sensitive to air flow when they are in self-thermal status, so NTC thermistors has potential to measure wind velocity. Under the same temperature and electric condition, such as stable room temperature, provide a constant current to NTC thermistors for self-thermal. Put NTC thermistors in still air, at this time, the terminal voltage is the lowest. Then increase the wind velocity generally, and the terminal voltage increases accordingly. That’s because the flow air decreases the self-thermal temperature of NTC thermistors, and the resistance increases. More fast is the flow air, more obviously the temperature falls. Vice versa, when we know how much the self-thermal temperature falls by detecting the terminal voltages, we can know the wind velocity. This is the principle of wind velocity measurement.

TECA1-XV-XV-D Series Peltier Controllers

The TECA1-XV-XV-D Peltier controller is designed to drive thermal electric coolers (TECs), and its parameters can be customized. This Peltier controller has a compact size, 25.6mm*20mm*7.5mm (see Figure 1), so that it is very easy and convenient to use, carry and store. In addition, the Peltier controller has high reliability, high stability and some other advantages.

For TECA1-XV-XV-D, the first “X’’ stands for the maximum input voltage, and the second one stands for the maximum output voltage. The input voltage can be 5V or 3.3V. When the input voltage is 5V, the maximum output voltage across TEC can be selected from 5V, 4.8V, 4V, 3.5V, 3V, 2.5V and 2V or required one; when the input voltage is 3.3V, the maximum output voltage can be selected from 3V, 5V and 2V.
The TECA1-LD-XV-XV-D, with LD, comes with an internal compensation network, which can match with the thermal load to stabilize the temperature loop. 
The TECA1-XV-XV-D, without LD, means that this controller has no internal network. So when using this controller, an external compensation network needs to be connected to the Peltier controller.

NTC Thermistor-Liquid Level Measurement (III)

In actual liquid level measurement, the temperatures of the water and air are often not the same. When the air temperature is low and the water temperature is high, we can’t judge NTC thermistor is in the water or air according to the voltage. However, if we know a temperature point and also the voltages of the air and the water at this temperature, then we can judge the NTC thermistor is in the air or in the water. That is to say, the liquid level and the temperature need to be measured at the same time, but generally, it’s hard to measure temperature when NTC thermistors are self-thermal. Therefore, another NTC thermistor is needed. By using two NTC thermistor, one in self-thermal, and the other not. Then we can measure the liquid level after processing in electronic circuit. Likely, the liquid level measurement in other gas or liquid media can be solved.

NTC Thermistor-Liquid Level Measurement (II)

We are introducing liquid level measurement for NTC thermistor. In the water and air of the same temperature, and under the same electrical condition, a constant current is provided to NTC thermistor, and make the thermistor produce self-heat. The voltage of NTC thermistor is relatively stable after heat balance. Then put it into the water, the voltage of NTC thermistor rises. That’s because when NTC thermistor enters into the water, the temperature falls, resulting in a resistance increase and the terminal voltage increase. The heat capacity of water is 2.5 times higher than the air, so the self-heat temperature in the water needs 2.5 times power than that in the air.

NTC Thermistor-Liquid Level Measurement (I)

NTC thermistors are widely used in temperature measurement and control system. ATI provides a complete series of NTC thermistors with high stability, high accuracy and a long service life, such as 
There is a main theory of liquid level measurement for NTC thermistor. The gas and liquid are different media. If we can distinguish these two media, it’s easy to solve the problem of liquid level measurement when measuring them with NTC thermistors. It’s difficult to judge the media according to the measurement result when NTC thermistors measure temperature at zero power, i.e. non-natural state. When NTC thermistors are in self-thermal state and the temperatures of the media keeps the same, the dissipation factors of NTC thermistors are different. When NTC thermistors are in different media under the same electrical conditions, they will show different electrical performances. This is the basis of liquid level measurement.

NTC Thermistor-Dissipation Factor

Analog Technologies, Inc. offers a series of NTC thermistors with or without a ring lug, such as ATH10K1R25 and ATH10KL2B, etc.
There is a very important factor in NTC thermistors, dissipation factor. We are looking for the relationship of self-thermal and dissipation factor.
It’s usually in still air to test the dissipation factor of NTC thermistors. It’s often in a glass container. When we do the test, the temperature of the inner glass container should be the same as the room temperature while the air in the room is relatively stable. Firstly, measure the zero power resistance. After removing the glass container, the resistance keeps the same; then measure the dissipation factor. When the self thermal reaches a thermal balance, i.e. the current and terminal voltage of the NTC thermistors keep stable. When removing the glass container, the current or the terminal voltage fluctuate, thus losing the stability. This denotes that the weak same temperature air influences the dissipation factor, but not the zero power resistance. Obviously, self-thermal NTC thermistors are sensitive to the flow air, which is a useful characteristic.

TEC5V6A-D Peltier Controller

TheTEC5V6A-D Peltier controller is a high efficiency, high reliability and high stability electronic module, which is designed to drive the thermal electric cooler modules (TEC). ATW3A314 Peltier Controller

Digital TEC/ TAN Controller ATFC107D

APeltier controller,ATFC107D, is designed to drive and monitor the working status of TEC and fan assembly. ThisPeltier controller comes with a digital display, which is used to monitor and regulate parameters. And as ATFC107DPeltiercontroller can communicate with PC by using a USB port, the parameters can be input into a PC. 
ATFC107DPeltier controller has a soft-start and soft-cut function that helps to extend the service lifetime of TECs. In addition, there are two modes, working mode and setting mode. When powering the Peltier controller, it will go into the working mode automatically and when pressing the “set” button, it will go into the setting mode, so users can set the temperature and the temperature unit.

High Efficiency Window Peltier Controller

ATW3A314 is a high efficiency window Peltier controller, which is designed to control thermal electric coolers (TECs). Using ATW3A314 Peltier controller, a target object temperature can be regulated within a pre-set temperature window. This Peltier controller has high working efficiency (more than 90 %), a compact size, and zero EMI. Figure 1 is the photo of an ATW3A314 Peltier controller.

The Characteristics of Peltier Controller ATW3A314

ATW3A314 is the part number of an ATIPeltier controller, which is designed for monitoring and controlling the actual objet temperature. ATW3A314Peltier controller has high efficiency, compact size and high stability. Besides monitoring and controlling the temperature, this Peltier controller can also be used to switch frequency synchronizedto an external signal. ATW3A314 Peltier controller comes with a programmable set-point temperature window, and users can set the required object temperature. This Peltiercontroller has a standby indication, when the temperature is within the pre-set object temperature, it will go into standby mode automatically. As thisPeltier controller is packaged in a six side metal enclosure, it has the capacity of blocking the interference between the Peltier controller and other electronics. Main Applications of NTC Thermistor (I)

Thermistor is a semiconductor component whose resistance changes significantly with the change of the (sensed) temperature. It’s called NTC thermistor when its resistance decreases when the temperature increases. NTC thermistor is widely used in home appliances. 
There are some main parameters for NTC thermistor:
1. Self-heating: When we measure or use NTC thermistor, there is always a current going through it, and this current heat up the thermistor. When self-heating occurs, the resistance of NTC thermistor drops, which produces some dynamic changes in measurement and other application. Therefore, it is critical to control self-heating. It should avoid self-heating when using NTC thermistor in temperature measurement. It should take advantage of self-heating when it is used in liquid level or wind speed measurement.

2. Zero Power Resistance: Zero power resistance is the most basic parameter of NTC thermistors. The resistance given by the manufacturer belongs to zero power resistance. However, ‘zero power’ confuses some customers since zero power doesn’t exist in physical meanings. Actually, the change of the resistance caused by self-heating can be neglected when comparing with the total measurement error. Generally, the zero power measurement of NTC thermistor is made in thermostatic bath, therefore, there are two main factors which influence the measurement error: one is the current through NTC thermistor, and the other is the accuracy of the thermostatic bath. In general, there are many ways to decrease this current, and when the current is reduced to a certain level, it’s the accuracy of the thermostatic bath that influences the total measurement error.
